How long do drugs stay in your system?

How long traces of a drug will stay in your body depends solely on what type of drug it is. While most drugs only stay in your system for 2-5 days, some can remain in your system for up to a month. See the individual page for drug test kits for more information on how long that substance stays in the body.

If a drug test is positive, can you determine how long ago the drug was taken and over what period of time?

No. Unfortunately, there’s no way of knowing when and how much of a substance is in the body with a drug test, only the actual presence of the drug itself.

What if no control line appears on the test results?

Repeat the test, following the instructions very closely. Generally the absence of the control line is a results of not enough urine or saliva being placed in the testing strip. Any absence of a line is a results of user error.

strong>How do test kits work?

Test kits detect the presence of certain substances in the urine, whether it be a drug or a specific hormone (for pregnancy and ovulation tests). If the substance is present in the urine, then the test kit will show a line.

When is the best time to do the test?

Generally, the morning is the best time to detect substances in urine. Throughout the day, as you drink water and eat food, your urine gets diluted, so the best time to test someone would be first thing in the morning when they wake up.

What if the test results show a false positive?

It is extremely rare for a test sample to return a false positive. Our test kits are over 99% accurate, but if for any reason you are in doubt, send the specimen to a laboratory for confirmation.
